On behalf of the Board of Fire Commissioners and the members of Fire District #4, I welcome you to our website. This site was developed to better serve our community by providing educational and informative information regarding the Fire District.
Walla Walla County Fire District #4 was formed in 1948 by a group of citizens concerned with the lack of fire protection immediately outside the city limits of Walla Walla and College Place. Since that time the district has steadily grown from a small rural fire district to the professional fire and emergency medical service provider it is today. We accomplish this through the use of approximately 68 dedicated volunteer, resident, and career firefighters.
Volunteer firefighters are the backbone of this department. Each year, thousands of hours are spent training to stay current on new fire suppression techniques, as well as rescue and emergency medical procedures. Why do volunteers do this? They do it because they want to help their neighbors; they want to give something back to their community.
We serve a population of approximately 10,500 residents within 125 square miles located west, south and east of Walla Walla and College Place cities. This area represents many types of land use and development including single family dwellings, industry, educational facilities and agricultural farmland. We provide fire suppression, rescue, ARFF crash rescue, emergency medical services, fire prevention and public education.
The fire commissioners and I are extremely proud of this fire district and the service we provide to the community. However, we are only part of the team. It takes the support of the entire community in order for us to do our job. On behalf of the fire commissioners, volunteers, paid staff, and myself, I want to thank you for your support. Because of you, we have a well-trained, diverse department, providing quality fire and EMS services. Your continued support will enable us to deal with future needs as our community grows. We are here to serve and protect you.
